No More Room in Hell 2: How to Extract

Learn how to extract in No More Room in Hell 2: complete main objectives, reach the helicopter, and keep your character.

What "Extracting" Means in No More Room in Hell 2

Extracting is the only way to keep your character and bank the XP you earned during a match in No More Room in Hell 2. If you die or fail to reach the extraction point, your character is lost to the game's permadeath system, and you start over with a fresh survivor.

The good news: extraction is not a separate mechanic you need to unlock. It is the natural end of every mission. The game's objective system guides you toward it.

Prerequisites

Before you can extract, you need to understand a few things:

RequirementWhat It Means
A living characterIf your character dies, you cannot extract. Permadeath means the run is over.
Completed main objectivesThe mission's main objective chain must be finished. The final objective leads you to the helicopter.
A group (strongly recommended)The final main objectives are extremely difficult to complete solo. Player reports consistently indicate you need at least a few teammates.
Gear from optional objectivesOptional objectives are the primary source of equipment. Trying main objectives with starting gear is a fast way to lose your character.

Important note about infection: If you extract while infected, the infection is cured. You do not carry it into your next session. This is a strong reason to push for extraction even if you have been bitten.

How to Extract: Step-by-Step

Follow this sequence in order. Skipping ahead is the most common reason players lose characters.

Step 1: Loot an Optional Location First

Do not run straight to the main objective when you spawn. Instead, open your map and identify a named location near your spawn point. Head there first.

Optional locations serve two purposes:

  • They give you gear appropriate for the main objectives.
  • They are where you will most likely meet other players.

Even if you find no loot worth keeping, the intel and positioning are worth the detour.

Step 2: Complete All Main Objectives

Your mission tracker shows the main objectives. Complete each one in order. The objectives are the only path to extraction. There is no shortcut and no "early extract" mechanic in the base game.

The final main objective will direct you to the extraction point. You cannot call the helicopter early, and you cannot extract before this point.

Step 3: Reach the Helicopter

Once the final objective is done, the helicopter arrival is triggered. Your compass and map will show the extraction point. Move there as a group.

The helicopter does not wait indefinitely. You need to be at the landing zone when it arrives or shortly after. If you are too slow, you miss the window.

Step 4: Board the Helicopter

Walk into the helicopter's boarding zone and interact when prompted. Once you board, the game registers your extraction.

At this moment you receive:

  • All account XP earned during the match
  • All character XP earned during the match
  • Your character is saved and can be used in future sessions

There is no single "best" loadout for extraction, but the community consensus is clear on the following:

ItemWhy It Matters
Firearm with ammunitionYou will face heavy resistance during the final objective and the run to the helicopter.
Melee weapon as backupAmmo runs out. A reliable melee weapon keeps you alive when it does.
Medical suppliesHealing items let you recover from mistakes instead of bleeding out.
At least 3–4 teammatesThe final objectives are balanced for a group. Going in with fewer players dramatically lowers your odds.

Common Mistakes That End Runs

These are the most frequent reasons players fail to extract:

Running to the main objective first. You will be undergeared and likely die. The game is designed around looting optional locations first.

Going solo. The final main objective is not realistically soloable. If you cannot find a group, consider waiting near a busy optional location until other players arrive.

Ignoring the compass. The extraction point is marked, but only if you are paying attention to the compass at the top of your screen. If you lose track of the direction, you can easily run away from the helicopter.

Splitting up at the extraction point. The helicopter zone is a fight. Players who split off to loot or chase stragglers often get overwhelmed and die within sight of extraction.

Hesitating when the helicopter arrives. The helicopter has a limited window. If you are looting a nearby building when it lands, you may miss it entirely.

Advanced Tips

  • Use optional objectives to scout for teammates. The named locations are where players naturally converge. If you arrive late, you can often find a group already forming.
  • Communicate before the final objective. Decide who carries the medical supplies and who covers the rear. A quick plan before the helicopter call is worth more than any weapon.
  • If you are infected, extraction is even more important. Player reports confirm that extraction cures infection. If you have been bitten but are still alive, push for the helicopter rather than giving up.
  • Do not treat the helicopter as the end of danger. The final push is often the most dangerous part of the run. Heal before you enter the landing zone, not after.
